There are two most-heard kinds of lipoproteins, one combination of Cholesterol and protein when travelling through the bloodstream, namely low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL is also called bad cholesterol and HDL is called good good cholesterol.
Basing on the names, it is often thought that LDL is bad and HDL is good for your health. But actually, bad cholesterol” is not as bad as people think.
Cholesterol is a waxy substance produced by the liver. It’s one of the lipids, or fats, the body makes and is used to form cell membranes and some hormones. Cholesterol has to combine with proteins to travel through the bloodstream to where it’s needed. When combining with protein, it is called lipoprotein. There are two kinds of lipoproteins which most people have heard about, namely low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL is also called bad cholesterol and HDL is called good good cholesterol.
LDL is referred as the bad cholesterol because it tends to build up in the walls of arteries, causing a slowing of the blood flow which often leads to heart disease and heart attacks. While HDL often helps remove cholesterol from arteries, so it is called the good cholesterol.
LDL serves with its purpose. Fortunately, this purpose is useful. It acts as a warning sign that something is wrong and it signals the body to these warning signs. Is smoking the problem, is it diet, is it lack of exercise that a person’s cholesterol is too high? It is its warning job.
If weren’t for LDL, you would die. LDL delivers cholesterol to tissues which they need. While HDL cleans up after the repair is done, LDL builds muscle during resistance training. Often those gained a great deal of muscle mass also had the high levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol.
In fact, you do need both the LDL and HDL and the truth is both are good. And you should erase the thought of getting rid of all your bad (LDL) cholesterol. Also LDL should not be called by this name because it is not bad at all.
